In 2012 while admiring my extensive records collected since I was 11 years old and looking at my music equipment for inspiration, I had a fantastic but ambitious idea which came to me in my living room… why not build a radio station to broadcast on the internet?

The question I asked myself was where should I begin?

Coming from an IT background I started off by looking into software for broadcasting. I spent many hours, days and nights researching for different software plus it had to be user friendly. After some considerable time I found the software I required and it was also free which was a huge bonus as I had a limited budget. All this took 2 years and this was just for the DJ side of broadcasting. Setting up the studio took a further couple of years to perfect before I was ready to produce a test broadcast for pre recording my radio shows, using my laptop into the desktop pc output. The outcome was a magnificent success to my ears with great audio sound and clarity!

On a natural high from the success of the test broadcast mode I now needed to focus on finding the right equipment to bring analogue and digital together. This was a huge challenge! I started by going on the internet to search for radio seminars in the radio industry for the most up to date equipment for broadcasters on the market. This took some time as I was also in full time employment. After several enquiries I found the equipment I needed at a great price and the sound quality was awesome!

The final stage was to find a suitable web hosting and a streaming company to provide both services that would meet the needs for the radio station - this finally happened on 28th June 2021…

…JLSR WAS BORN!

JLSR is an internet radio station broadcasting on the World Wide Web, specialising in music of black origin from the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s, Noughties and current trends to help bring diversity.

This station is dedicated to my loving belated Mother who I thank for my wisdom and the motivation to always persevere with my goals and dreams. I also dedicate the station to my beloved Father whose footsteps I followed in the music interest and who inspired me to be successful in my endeavours.
